Plaza rental information

If you would like to make use of the large public plaza outside the Bookstore, it is available to rent on a daily or weekly basis. Expose your brand to over 60,000 + people, including a majority of students, the next generation of consumers.

The plaza is well suited for face-to-face customer interaction through:

  • Product launches, sampling and demonstrations

  • Coupon distribution (with sustainability in mind, we keep this to a minimum).

Space

Plaza rental space is located directly in front of the UBC Bookstore’s main entrance.

Both areas are 10 feet square. Area 1 is under cover. Area 2 is not covered.

When you rent the plaza you have exclusive use of both areas.

Two 8-foot tables, chairs and standard electrical connections are included in the rental fee.

Dates and times

Plaza rental is available year round during regular Bookstore hours:

Monday to Friday from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM

Saturday from 11 AM to 5 PM.

Certain dates in early January and September may be blacked out for rental. These are the busiest back-to-school periods when we have 100,000 + customers per week. Hours are extended during these periods.

Parking

You can drop-off your display materials on the upper plaza. There is an accessible ramp to the lower plaza rental areas.

Parking is available in the Health Sciences parkade two blocks away.

Rates

Rental rates include exclusive use of both Area 1 and/or Area 2 of the plaza.

Daily rental rate   $300.00 (except back-to-school periods January and September)

$350 (back-to-school periods January and September)

Weekly rental rate (Based on minimum 5 days) 

$1,125.00 (25% savings on the daily rate)

$1,312.50 (back-to-school periods - 25% savings on the daily rate)

Rental rates do not include HST. Payment in full and the signed contract are required to reserve your preferred date(s).

Fine Print

Key points from our Rental Contract:

Renters are responsible for their own insurance coverage.

UBC Bookstore has adopted a 'No sweat' labour policy for clothing vendors. Renters who are promoting clothing must ensure their manufacturers employ fair labour practices and are environmentally responsible.

UBC Bookstore reserves the right to finalize the set-up.

Renter may cancel any time, but full payment is non-refundable.

UBC Bookstore may cancel a booking for reasons beyond its control at any time. Full payment will be refunded to the renter.
