Privacy policy

Like you, we think privacy is very important. The UBC Bookstore uses reasonable, industry-standard security arrangements to guard against such risks as unauthorized access, collection, use, disclosure and disposal of personal information.

Purpose and consent

Before collecting your personal information, or at the time of collection, we will explain the purpose and obtain your consent. Consent can be given by you in writing, in person, by telephone, by using check boxes or entering an e-mail address.
In accordance with the Canadian Freedom of Information and Protection Act (FOIPPA), your consent is required for the UBC Bookstore to collect personal information which is stored in secure servers outside of Canada. We will clearly identify these programs and ask you for your authorization in such cases.
Limiting collection
Your personal information will be used only for the purpose for which it is collected (for example, our book club mailing list is only used to communicate with you about our Book Club).

Security

Your personal information is kept confidential and secure and is not disclosed outside of the UBC Bookstore and our partnership companies. We protect the personal information we collect with security safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information.

Your password

For password-protected portions of our site, your password is not just a ‘key’ to your account record, but also the authority to charge your account. Please keep it secure!

Access

You have the right to access your own personal information and correct any inaccuracies.

Withdrawing consent

You may withdraw your consent at any time. Simply contact us at bkstore@interchange.ubc.ca, (604) 822-2665 or 1-800-661-3889 (Toll-free in Canada). Please indicate the information you want removed and the specific list that your name is on.

Online store security

UBC Bookstore is currently upgrading its e-commerce system to comply with Payment Card Industy (PCI) standards, which do not let us store your credit card information. A choice of temporary measures to complete your online transaction is listed on the online Order Form. Your order will be processed once we receive your credit card number by fax or phone. Thank you for your patience with these temporary measures.

We protect your information in two ways: technically and ethically.

Credit card information protection

We use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) to encrypt your transaction session, ensuring your transactions stay private and protected from eavesdropping.
